Hamburg, September 21, 2016 – St. Pauli is hoisting the ANCHOR 2016. The Reeperbahn Festival was officially launched on Wednesday evening at a personal opening event in Hamburg for the new ANCHOR – Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award. The ANCHOR is setting a new standard in recognising the most promising talent of the international music scene.

Alex Schulz, the founder of the award and director of Reeperbahn Festival, has big ambitions for the new music accreditation: “The Anchor will be a guide to help fans navigate the world of international music. It will become an international quality standard for new, outstanding music for both artists and the music industry alike.”

The British presenter Kylie Olsson introduced the expert jury and the experienced David Bowie producer Tony Visconti with both wit and art. Visconti, Iceland’s pop sensation Emiliana Torrini, MTV legend Ray Cokes, Swedish singer-songwriter Anna Ternheim, Paris-based artist Y’akoto and James Minor, Head of Music at South by Southwest Festival (Austin, Texas), to decide which of the nominees is awarded the ANCHOR trophy, created specially by design icon Peter Schmidt. The jury will come to their decision once they have watched all of the nominees‘ live performances as part of the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. On Saturday September 24, the ANCHOR will be awarded to one single winner in front of 400 invited guests at a glamorous ceremony at the St. Pauli Theater. Eight artists from six countries are nominated in the run-up to the festival. Being nominated alone is already an accolade for Shame (UK), Woman (Germany), Albin Lee Meldau (Sweden), Conner Youngblood (USA), Holly Macve (UK), Olivia Sebastianelli (UK), Konni Kass (Faroe Islands, Denmark) and the Berlin-based Parcels (Australia). From today, the artists will get their chance to persuade the ANCHOR 2016 jury with their performances at the Reeperbahn Festival.

Tony Visconti is looking forward to being a jury member for ANCHOR 2016: “I will be watching the concerts like a real fan and looking for the wow effect.”

The culmination of the ANCHOR 2016 is the Award Ceremony on September 24 at the St. Pauli Theater, Hamburg, Germany. Here the jury and Alex Schulz will announce the winner in front of the audience. The show, hosted by presenters Kylie Olsson (UK) and Helena Felixberger (Germany) also feature performances by Beatbox Champion Beardyman (UK) and multi-instrumentalist Jarle Bernhoft (Norway).
